What is the Savannah Children's Choir?

Now entering its fifth year, The Savannah Children's Choir is an auditioned community choir with a mission of uniting Savannah's children through the power of song.

Currently, the SCC consists of two choirs, the Preparatory and the Senior choirs, and an auditioned ensemble of the Senior Choir called Consort.

Designed for children in 2nd through 8th grades, the choir provides weekly music education, rehearsals, and performance opportunities throughout the school year. (See box at left for currently scheduled performance dates.)

The SCC also hosts an annual Artist in Residence program each spring.  Visiting artists work with the choir and local schools to inspire careers in the arts.

Annually on the last two weeks of July, the choir provides an Summer Choral Camp (for rising 2nd through 8th graders) and an annual Mini-Choral Camp (for 4-7 year olds) which gives musically-interested kids a fun way to learn about music.  The Summer Choral Camp also serves as the primary audition into the Choir.

Ever year, the choir offers enriching travel opportunities to its members.  In 2010, the Preparatory Choir visited Charleston, SC, and the Senior Choir participated in the Windy City Youth Choral Festival in Chicago.  In 2009, the Preparatory Choir traveled to Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the Senior Choir participated in the Somerset International Youth Choral Festival, where they sang in  Wells Cathedral and Sherborne Abbey.
