Travel
Just as the SCC’s mission is to unite Savannah’s children through the power of song, music is an international language which unites people around the world.
Annual travel opportunities help our members experience the world beyond Savannah.
The Preparatory Choir takes a regional (4-5 hour) trip each year to perform publicly, and experience the sights and sounds of another community. This experience of being away from home helps build travel skills for when they join the Senior Choir. The Senior Choir travels nationally and internationally on a rotating schedule.
In 2007, the entire choir traveled to Atlanta, visiting the Spivey Hall Children’s Choir on the way, and performing at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.
In 2009, the Senior Choir traveled to England to participate in the Windy City Youth Choral Festival, while the Prep Choir traveled to Chattanooga, to perform and tour.
In 2010, the Senior Choir attended the Windy City Youth Choral festival in Chicago, and the Prep Choir traveled to tour and perform in Charleston, SC.
The SCC took a joint tour in 2011to celebrate their 5th anniversary and traveled to Florida to perform for the residents at an Alzheimers care facility and a Ronald McDonald house.
The Senior Choir will attend the 2012 Days of Verona international choir competetion in Verona, Italy the week following Easter.
Choir members raise funds for their travel by selling advertising in the annual program book, holding spaghetti suppers, putting on concerts, and more.
However, some of our children need additional help. Won’t you consider making a donation that could provide a talented child with the much-needed funds to make travel a reality?
